Tourists offered peek into the past with replica colonial town in Salento

Colombia news - Salento

Balconies, beams and a colorful paint palette will be the aesthetic of a new replica-colonial-village being built in Salento, a municipality in the central Colombian department of Quindio, as an authentic tourist attraction.

The replica old town, named a "Pueblito Paisa," will include a church, a main square, bridges and cobbled stone streets, all constructed in faithful imitation of colonial architecture. The attraction will also include a small functioning theatre for tourists to enjoy local shows and spectacles.

The project's engineer, Henry Cardona, said that his original plan for the space was create a cattle fair but that the local counsel had not permitted any commercial use for the space, and he therefore had the idea to create the colonial village.

Cardona said that construction of the village should be completed within up to three months.
