
The Colombian army has upped security on travel routes in the department of La Guajira on the country's northeastern coast to ensure ease and security of travel for the upcoming tourist high season.
Mobile checkpoints have been established throughout the peninsula, and the La Guajira director of tourism, Carmen Luisa Quintero Bermudez, speaking to newspaper el Informador, has guaranteed tourists total security, on behalf of the military authorities.
Furthermore, the director added that all tourist sites in the department will be monitored by La Guajira police, with support from local governments.
