Colombia news - Mini Orchid

One of the world's tiniest orchids was discovered in the natural park of the Cacique Guatavita lagoon in the Cundinamarca department. The little flower quickly became one of the park's main attractions, Radio Caracol reported Friday.

It is a tiny orchid flower which only has three millimeters in diameter and so far does not have a name.

The tiny orchid only blooms once a year for two months.

Jorge Cruz, administrator of the Regional Autonom Corporation, expects scientists from all over the world to study the plant and to give it a name, especially within the program that celebrates the trip of famous German botanist and scientist Alexander von Humboldt who visited the lagoon in 1801.
