A room for one night in Bogotá's hotel Tequendama, the magazine cites as example, in 2006 cost US$ 221. Nowadays a room in the same hotel costs US$ 293.
The revaluation of the Peso has led to an 11.6 percent increase of prices for U.S. Citizens in 2008 alone. The year before it was 10 percent, calculates the magazine.
Luis Guillermo Plata, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, says the effects of the strong peso aren't that visible on the tourism industry.
"The figures for permanent growth of foreign tourism in the first quarter are a clear example of this. Also domestic tourism figures show that there are more Colombians now that can travel abroad, but most are not. The industry should be creative and try to attract these travelers," the Minister said.
Colombian Tourism agency Aviatur earlier had denied the growth in tourists. Director Jean Claude Bessure said the majority of the 3.4 increase in foreign travelers are for example Venezuelans selling gasoline just across the border.
