Jose Rujano wins 59th Vuelta a Colombia

Colombia news - Jose Rujano

Jose Rujano has won the 59th edition of the Vuelta a Colombia. The Venezuelan put the crown on his work by winning the final time trial in the streets of Bogota.

On the 15th and last day of this year's Vuelta a Colombia, those that remained faced a 35km time trial from La Calera to Bogota, with finish near the senate and town hall.

Jose Rujano once again proved to be the best rider this year, as the Gobernacion del Zulia rider clocked a time that turned out to be nine seconds better than that of Juan Pablo Suarez (Indeportes Antioquia). Oscar Sevilla set the third-best time.

Freddy Montaña, second in the overall classification, lost another 22 seconds in respect to the lead as Rujano extends his overall lead to 5 minutes and 25 seconds.

Montaña (Boyaca es para Vivirla) does remain in second place ahead of Loteria del Tachira rider Cesar Salazar.

Rujano dominated throughout the Vuelta, and was particularly strong in the second week. The 27-year-old has an impressive palmares, which includes winning the mountains classification of the 2005 Giro d'Italy, in which he also finished third in the general classification.

This year, Rujano returned to his home country after having spend six seasons riding for some of Europe's biggest teams.
