DAS Director Felipe Muñoz said Wednesday that his security agency will open investigations into the financing of Colombian congressional and presidential candidates' election campaigns, following President Alvaro Uribe's accusations that a "foreign country" is meddling in the electoral process.
Muñoz said it is believed that a foreign government is financing the election campaigns of one presidential and two congressional candidates.
The security agency director did not disclose the names of the candidates in question but said that they would be made public at an opportune time.
Presidential candidates have asked Uribe to provide more detail on the matter.
"I ask the president to say who [the candidates] are, so that there are no suspicions or misunderstandings," Liberal Party presidential candidate Rafael Pardo.
"There needs to be more substance [to the allegations] so that this doesn't become a silly little thing that is simply a headline in the press," Green Party candidate Antanas Mockus said.
Uribe said earlier today that he has documents proving that a presidential candidate - who the president did not name - was planted in Colombia by a "foreign government" in order to "strain conditions" during the upcoming elections.
"A foreign government is trying to block Colombian presidential candidates and insert [its own] candidates into the Colombian presidency," he claimed.

All this does is continue turning Colombia into a paranoid, lunatic society much like Mussollini's Italy and Hitler's Germany in the 1930s where everyone was kept paranoid about the Soviet Union. I'm not comparing Uribe 100% to those men, but the tactics are the same. |

How about we find out just how many MILLIONS of dollars the US and the CIA has funneled to support Uribe's candidacy years ago! No one said that politics was about being fair or at all truthful, so who cares! They can fly a Russian flag over the US Embassy in Colombia for all I care! |
