IG asks lab to identify bodies found in mass grave

alejandro ordoñes, colombia news, crimen, laboratory

Colombia's Office of the Inspector General asked science and national and international judicial communities to create a laboratory to identify the more than 2000 bodies that were buried in a mass grave.

The grave, located in Macarena, is the biggest in the country.

The lab's workers would be composed of experts in anthropology, forensic and genetic science, the Office of the Inspector General, and the national police. The team would be in charge of identifying victims that the FARC buried during what the attorney general thinks was the time of the clearance zone.

The bodies were all buried in the same grave, marked as "NN" in the cemetery in Macarena. The victims are assumed to be guerrillas, farmers, and paramilitaries.
