Colombia lies and commits acts of war: Venezuela

Colombia news - Venezuela

The Venezuelan Government on Monday accused Colombia's Alvaro Uribe administration of lying and being the only government on the continent guilty of acts of war.

The accusation follows Colombia's announcement it would turn to the United Nations Security Council and the Organization of American States after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told the Venezuelan army and people to prepare for war with the neighboring country.

According to a statement by the Venezuelan government, Colombia's announcement to seek the support of the international bodies is "immoral" and "reflects the hypocrisy that caracterizes the Colombian oligarchy."

"The government of Uribe lies, as it has been demonstrated that the pact that officializes the U.S. military occupation of Colombia serves to protect the strategic domination of the empire over South America, allowing broad military operations in all of the region," the statement said.

So far, Colombia has been the only country to commit acts of war, the Venezuelan government says, referring to the March 1, 2008 cross-border attack on a FARC camp in Ecuador.

According to the government of the leftist Hugo Chavez, Colombia is trying to undo the work of Simon Bolivar, who liberated a large part of South America from Spanish rule.

Relations between Colombia and Venezuela have been tense for years as their governments are of opposing ideologies. Chavez rejects any U.S. meddling on the continent, while Colombia depends on the U.S. to combat leftist guerrilla groups like the FARC and numerous drug gangs.

A recent pact between Colombia and the U.S. that allows the Americans extensive use of Colombian military bases and airports to fight terrorism and drug trafficking triggered Venezuela to freeze diplomatic relations as it considers an increase of American military presence in Colombia a threat to its sovereignty.

Hugo just can let go can he, I suggest some therapy would help with his anger and inablilitly to let go. Having the UN and OAS get invloved sounds like it is needed to maybe cool him down.

Ok...let's have President Chavez voice his complaints to the OAS. Allow him to present all of his facts...let him show proof of what he says...let him offer a way out, if there is a need for one.

Chavez wants a war, it is the only real way he can justify his political beliefs...through military strength. Why does he want war in the first place? Why does he want to kill the citizens of Venezuela...have seen the recent TV images of his own citizens without any water in their homes? It is pitiful. His army has no military strength and no combat experience. In a war with Colombia the results would be devastating for President Chavez...on sea, land, and by air. Colombia has done nothing nor have they said anything that could be construed as an act of war. If President Chavez says he has then let's see what the proof is. And don't use the U.S. military as the proof because the U.S. military has been in its current position and contract for many years. They are not a combat force and do not intend to be. They are acting via a contract that is 8 years old and is just being renewed.

Chavez is a very weak individual and is using this current frame up as a way to show he is a strong leader. Having a strong military does not make you a strong leader. In the case of Chavez it only shows his weakness. Even more so if he thinks that Ecuador and Bolivia would rush to his aid. The only thing you would see from Ecuador and Bolivia are the backs of their soldiers.
