Security forces are today focused on the current reassembling of paramilitary factions in the region who are making inroads with extortion and re-planting illegal drug crops, reported news station Caracol on Thursday.

Allegedly, several ex-AUC paramilitary bosses who are serving prison sentences, are now eager to regain control of the areas from which their were disbanded and maintain their illegal activites.

Authorities in the region have already managed to erradicate some 156 hectares of coca leaf production but they are aware that criminal gangs from the Antioquia region are making inroads into Cundinamarca.

Army General Rafael Diaz claimed that the Military Forces were well aware of the emerging gangs have have provided intelligence personnel to remain atop their illegal activities. Diaz stated "we have a [military] presence in the relevent urban centers and a special safety line which is protecting the capital Bogota from any advances by FARC guerrillas."

On Sunday, Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe will travel to the Cundinamarca area - where last week two town councillors were murdered - to assess the situaton.
