Uribe's son investigated in notary scandal

Colombia news - Tomas Uribe

Colombia's Supreme Court has called President Alvaro Uribe's son, Tomas, for questioning about his alleged role in the bribery of Congressmen to secure his father's re-election in 2006, newspaper El Espectador reported on Monday.

Former Superintendent of Notaries, Manuel Cuello Baute, had filed a complaint before the Supreme Court in June, claiming that Congressmen were benefited by the appointment of 79 notaries after voting in favor of the constitutional change that allowed Uribe to be re-elected for the first time in 2006.

Cuello claims that Tomas Uribe was involved in the allocation of a notary in Tunja, Boyaca.

The President's oldest son denied having made recommendations for the appointment of notaries. Tomas Uribe will defend his innocence before the Supreme Court on July 30.
