Sweden wants Venezuelan explanation about FARC rocket launchers

Colombai news - Chavez Sweden

Sweden asked Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to explain how Swedish rocket launchers that were sold to the Venezuelan army ended up in the hands of Colombia's largest rebel group FARC.

"It was confirmed that a small number of arms produced in Sweden were found in a FARC camp. We ask explanations of those responsible in the Venezuelan government and tell us how it is possible that this equipment was found in Colombia," a Swedish government spokesman said.

The Venezuelan government says the controversy is a "media show."

"It doesn't surprise us that again the source is the supercomputer of [slain FARC commander] Raul Reyes," Interior Minister Tarek El Aissami said Monday.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Sunday denounced that Swedish-made weapons were found in FARC camps.

The accusation comes just after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez ordered to send military equipment and personnel to the Colombian border in response to U.S.-Colombian plans to allow the U.S. to conduct international counternarcotics operations from Colombian airbases.
