Local ELN leader captured in Bogota

Colombia news - ELN

Colombia's police Friday captured alleged local ELN leader Pablo Santos Gamboa in Bogota who is suspected to be involved in recruiting young people for Colombia's second biggest leftist guerrilla group.

Santos Gamboa, member of the Martha Helena Baron Gallardo force of the ELN, worked as a professor at public universities in Bogota and was responsible for the ELN magazine "El Observador", El Espectador reported.

On Santos Gamboa's capture, the authorities seized 760 copies of "El Observador" and captured two other alleged guerrillas who also worked on the magazine, 25-year-old Manrique Luis Mariano and student Martha Soto.

"Basically the jobs of the [three captured] was to print and to bind the magazine which refers to the Eastern War Front of the ELN. The magazine targets different public universities in Bogota as well as the war front of this guerrilla organization", Director of the Metropolitan Police of Bogota, Cesar Augusto Pinzon, said.

Colombia's military Friday captured another alleged ELN guerrilla in Cali, Evelio Loaiza Muñoz alias "El Cucho". The captured allegedly belongs to the ELN for 40 years and coordinates the international politics of the guerrilla group, cmi.com reported.
