Government care for displaced 'insufficient': Constitutional Court

Colombia news - displaced

Colombia's government is not doing enough to help the millions of Colombians who are displaced by the country's violent conflict, the Constitutional Court ruled Thursday.

According to the Court, the reports by Presidential agency for the country's displaced, Accion Social, are "insufficient and show how progress is slow in comparison to the dimension of the problem and the humanitarian drama of the phenomenon."

The Court demands the government to report on displacement in a "profound, sufficient and adequate" way and to comply with previous rulings the Court made about the care for  the country's approximately three million war victims.

To push the government to take more action, the Court ordered Social Accion director Luis Alfonso Hoyos Aristizabal to personally appear for a public hearing and explain the situation of the displaced and the help they are receiving from the government.
