Former Superintendent of Notaries Manuel Cuello Baute did not denounce 34, but two congressmen who allegedly were bribed to allow President Alvaro Uribe's re-election in 2006, his attorney said Tuesday.
According to Cuello's Lawyer, Alvaro Perez, the former superintendent only reported former congressmen Yidis Medina and Mauricio Pimiento.
The lawyer admitted that there is a list of representatives and senators
who might have received bribes but explained that this list is only
possible evidence which was handed over to the Supreme Court and not a
complaint, Radio W reported.
Cuello said last Friday that he had filed a complaint before the Supreme Court that 34 Congressmen had benefited with the appointment of 79 notaries after voting in favor for the constitutional change that allowed Uribe to be re-elected for the first time in 2006.
Colombia's government Saturday denied having bribed Congressmen in its attempt
to have the 2006 re-election of Uribe approved.
