More Congressmen bribed for Uribe's 2006 re-election approval: Official

Colombia news - Alvaro Uribe

A number of Congressmen who voted in favor of Colombian President Alvaro Uribe's 2006 re-election received notary offices, according to a statement made by the former Superintendent of Notary and Registry to the Supreme Court of Justice.

Manuel Cuello Baute named Congressmen who had received notaries after voting in favor of the re-election, some of whom changed their vote from 'against' to 'in favor of', according to El Espectador.

The named Congressmen have not yet been publicly identified.

The validity of the claims is being verified by a magistrate, who will make a pronouncement over this latest development in 'Yidispolitica' in the next few days.

Former Congressman Teodolindo Avendaño earlier this month was sentenced to eight years house arrest for not voting on the 2006 re-election of President Alvaro Uribe in exchange for a notary office.
