Inspector General announces more 'FARC-politics' investigations

Colombia news - Alejandro Ordoñez

Colombia's Inspector General, Alejandro Ordoñez, Thursday announced his office will be investigating more politicians for their alleged ties to the country's largest guerrilla movement FARC.

In an interview with Caracol Radio, Ordoñez said he was looking into possible evidence of 'FARC-politics' by other public officials than the four opposition Congressmen and Bogota council member.

"A number of pieces of evidence are being considered and we will define if we will do it [open an official investigation] or not," the Inspector General told the radio station.

Ordoñez, who is in charge of the disciplinary investigation against the politicians, added that if his investigators find any evidence of criminal activity, this evidence will be handed over to the Prosecutor General who is involved in a criminal investigation into politicians.

The most prominent of politicians currently being investigated by the Inspector General is opposition Senator and leader of peace activist movement Colombians for Peace, Piedad Cordoba.
