Uribe offers US$240 thousand for liberation council member

Colombia news - Alvaro Uribe

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Sunday offered a US$240 thousand reward for information leading to the liberation of a member of the council of Garzon, Huila, who was kidnapped little over a week ago.

Uribe Sunday had planned to visit to the town of Garzon where FARC guerrillas kidnapped councilor José Armando Acuña Molina, but bad weather was said to have prevented him from leading the town's security council.

From the military base in Catam, near Bogota, the President reiterated "all offers of reward in Garzon, to fight this narco-terrorist group that is led by a terrorist known as 'El Paisa', of 'Teofilo Forero' of the FARC and of another one called 'El Corcho'."

The council member was kidnapped after some ten FARC guerrillas stormed the town and occupied the Palace of Justice where they encountered the victim. He was taken at gunpoint and hasn't been heard from since.
