Colombia news - displaced

More than 380,000 people were displaced by violence in Colombia last year, Codhes, and NGO specialized in displacement announced Wednesday.

The number indicated a 24.5% increase in displacement.

The organization states that of 8.9 percent of all Colombians is displaced by the country's 44-year old conflict.

According to Codhes, the four main causes of displacement were the government offensive against guerrillas, the forced displacement by paramilitary forces, attacks of the FARC on the civilian population and the aerial fumigation of illicit crops.

4.6 million people were displaced by the conflict since 1985, the NGO says. The government official estimates say nearly 3 million Colombians were forced to leave their home.
