There's no contradiction in convicting former congressmen for receiving bribes, and not investigating the government officials who are accused of having offered the bribes, Colombia's Inspector General says.
In an interview with newspaper El Tiempo, Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez explains there is not enough evidence to continue a disciplinary investigation against current Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio and current ambassador to Rome Sabas Pretelt de la Vega for having bribed former congressmen Yidis Medina and Teodolindo Avendaño.
However, the conviction of the two former congressmen is just, because their guilt is proven, the Inspector General claims.
According to the Inspector General, it is not proven it were the two mentioned government officials who offered the bribe, despite the testimony of one of the recipient of the bribe, Yidis Medina, saying so.
It is the imagination of some journalists who believe the Inspector General has a political agenda that Ordoñez only acquitted members of the government, he said.

... okay does this guy thin people are stupid? she was convicted of taking bribes from these two, if are they in prison like her? are they still in the government? they need to be charged and sent to prison just like her, for if there isn't enough evidence to convit them for bribing her then there wasn't enought to convict her. and she should be set free like them... |
