The United States Government is willing to send prominent FARC members 'Simon Trinidad' and 'Sonia' back to Colombia if that is part of the solution to Colombia's violent conflict, U.S. ambassador to Bogotá William Brownfield said Wednesday.
Brownfield told newspaper El Espectador Washington is willing to discuss the matter if their imprisonment in the U.S. is blocking peace or the release of FARC hostages in Colombia.
"The United States want to participate in any solution that will bring peace to Colombia," he said.
Brownfield added that the U.S. does need a specific proposal from the FARC before considering re-extraditing the prominent guerrillas.
"These two particular former members of the FARC (...) are incarcerated in prisons in the United States for crimes and offenses against the law of this country," he said.
'Simon Trinidad' and 'Sonia' are part of a group of 500 guerrillas the FARC wants to exchange for 22 members of the security forces they are holding captive.
