Former head of DMG sentenced to 9 years in US prison

Colombian News - David Murcia

The former head of DMG, David Murcia Guzman, was sentenced to nine years in a U.S. prison on Friday for money laundering.

The defense lawyer, Robert Abreu, had asked the judge to return Murcia to Colombia to complete his sentence there, but this request was rejected. He must now spend at least the next five and a half years in an American prison after pleading guilty to attempting to launder millions of dollars.

Following sentencing, Murcia apologized to the United States and Colombia, but denied the money laundered was linked to drug trafficking, according to newspaper El Espectador

Murcia was the head of DMG, which according to Colombian authorities, was a ponzi scheme that laundered money for local drug lords. Hundreds of thousands of Colombian lost their savings when police shut down all company activities in late 2008.
