Land ownership investigations begin in north Colombia

The superintendent of notary and registration has announced an investigation into irregularities of 12,000 plots of land in Uraba, Antioquia, that are believed to have been usurped.

According to Caracol Radoio, Superintendent Jorge Enrique Velez said "It will be analysed plot by plot, mainly the titles that are dealt with by the National Land Fund, and any with specific complaints".

Velez added that the first results of the investigation with be revealed at the end of August. He went on to reiterate his warning to the community to check the legal status of their properties as well as to warn against dealing with anyone except the Public Records Office when purchasing land.

Garcia also said that during three months of land investigations 264,000 acres had been returned across the country.
