colombia news - luis hoyos

Colombia says the ambassador to the OAS, Luis Alfonso Hoyos, will not be replaced, despite reports Monday stating otherwise.

In a statement released late on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said, "The Colombian government has not relieved the Ambassador for Colombia to the OAS, Luis Alfonso Hoyos Aristizabel, and for the moment hasn't contemplated changes in the direction of the this diplomatic mission," reports El Tiempo.

Rumours had been circulating for the past few days that Hoyos, a frequent critic of Venezuela and a remnant of the former administration of Alvaro Uribe, would lose his post in light of the upcoming visit of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

President Juan Manuel Santos has made a point since assuming office of trying to normalize relations with Colombia's neighbor after a period of strained diplomatic tensions under the Uribe presidency.
