Judicial strike will continue during negotiations

Negotiations between judicial strikers and the Colombian government will only halt the now 12-day strike when the workers concerns are addressed, a union representative said Monday.

Colombia's 12-day judicial strike will continue until an agreement is reached on worker demands, despite the union coming to agreement with the government Saturday on the conditions for negotiations, announced the vice president of Asonal, the judicial workers syndicate.

Vice president Gustavo Martínez said the workers have three fundamental points of concern: renumeration of judges and prosecutors; case overload; and labor stability. Negotiations will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, presided over by Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio, reported W Radio.

As part of the agreement to begin negotiations, Colombia's Finance Minister Óscar Iván Zuluaga committed to analyzing the budget options to allow an equalization of judicial salaries, as demanded by the union. He anticipated having an proposal to present this afternoon.
