A FARC spokesman on Thursday accused Colombia and the United States of killing an Ecuadorean soldier who was found shot last month on the border between Colombia and Ecuador.
A man called "Raul Ruiz," reported spokesman of the guerrillas' 48th front, told Ecuadorean television station TeleAmazonas that the guerrillas suspect "Colombian military intelligence with the help of the U.S. embassy" of the homicide.
The man denied any responsibility of the FARC, saying that the guerrillas' policy is to maintain "brotherly relations with all neighboring countries."
The 20-year old Alvaro Manobanda of the Ecuadorean Air Force was found dead mid-August in the area around El Palmar. According to French news agency AFP, a local military official said, based on witness reports, that a Colombian had committed the murder.
